La Guardia Airport is situated on Long Island in Queens County in New York City. The airport sits on the waterfront of Bowery Bay and Flushing Bay and has the bordering neighbourhoods of East Elmhurt, Astoria and Jackson Heights. La Guardia is the smallest of the area’s commercial airports.

Flights from La Guardia Airport are mostly to destinations within the United States and Canada. Flights also serve Bermuda, Aruba and the Bahamas, which are destinations that have preclearance facilities for the US border. La Guardia is the US’s busiest airport that doesn’t offer a non-stop service to and from Europe.

Together with other New York airports, La Guardia Airport helps make up the biggest airport system of the US. Regarding passenger traffic, it is the second in the world following London. La Guardia Airport is made up of four terminals that are linked by walkways and buses. The Central Terminal Building serves most domestic airlines.

There are a number of destinations reached from La Guardia. During 2009, more than 25 airlines operated from the airport. The most popular carriers are American Airlines, Delta, United, US Airways and Northwest. La Guardia Airport also has several flights from Frontier, Air Tran, Spirit and Continental.

The two busiest domestic routes from La Guardia Airport are to Atlanta in Georgia and Chicago O’Hare in Illinois. Following those destinations are Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas, Miami in Florida, Boston in Massachusetts, Detroit in Michigan, Washington in DC, Denver in Colorado and Charlotte in North Carolina.
